Re-purposed Items
A re-purposed dresser from an instore workshop at The Corner Decor & More in Mount Albert. Dresser top was damaged by water and the bottom drawer was broken. The top was covered with wallpaper and sealed. The 2 bottom drawers were combined into 1 deep drawer. Sold by the end of the day!
An antique trim that was salvaged from a GTA area home. A curtain rod was added to enable hanging large tapestries.
Another section of antique trim but this time wrought iron coat hooks were added. Not the perfect spacing but had to work around the cut-outs.
A beaded hanging candle holder that was secured to a wall sconce bracket. Need to post an update as it's now been re-hung to a pendant lamp.
Four kitchen cabinet doors found on the road side (yes, I'm a scavenger). The top was tiled with tiles found in the basement of the house. I used a great product called Simplemat to adhere the tiles and then grouted as usual. The doors were secured with corner brackets and caster wheels were added. Sturdy enough to hold a TV or small selection of weights!
A 'naked' steno-chair! The vinyl was beyond being duck-tape worthy so it was striped down and lightly sanded.
Some will say that you can never have enough trays but I felt that I had too many. The handles from the tray were re-positioned and knobs added to become a jewelry holder.
A repainted wicker table. First primed with STIX and then painted with left over house paint. It didn't survive the claws of a kitten and was eventually repurposed by someone else who loves wicker. Lesson I learned, painted wicker should be sealed.
Another road side find, a TV stand that obviously was from a time before VCR's or gaming systems. Top was tiled with tile sheets that I found at ReStore and just had to have. Adhered with Simplemat and grouted. STIX was used to prime after washing the road grime off with Eco TSP. Benjamin Moore Aura paint finished it off.
Slats are a shutter from a shed. Primed with STIX and painted. Knobs with painted with regular acrylic craft paint.
A piece of antique base board from a century home in Mount Albert Ontario. Salvaged from the side of the road. Eco TSP was used to clean the residue from the old original paint. I chose NOT to strip it as I didn't know if it was lead paint. Sanded wood knobs were added, left un-treated.
Another piece of antique baseboard from the same road side salvage in Mount Albert. Again, cleaned with Eco TSP and left all the paint intact. Pipe strapping is used to hold the mason jars. Back of the board is un-painted and shows the rough hewned board.
Alabaster chess pieces that hubby found at a yard sale just needed a chess board. The tray is actually a balsa wood tray from a catered party. Painting the chess squares were a pain (apparently the harder you try to paint a straight line, the worse it looks!). This board was sold at a local Mount Albert event.
A massive wood stump that a farmer said we could have. I'm sure he laughed as he watched us struggle to load it in the trunk. It has made it's journey from Mount Albert to Thornbury until it's age became evident and was eventually sacrificed to a wood-pile. RIP
This side table (also a road side find) was painted with Fusion Mineral paint at a workshop I attended at The Corner Decor & More store in Mount Albert. Top was tiled with tile mats and grouted. The table had 12 cubbies and was highlighted as the "12 Wines of Christmas" for a display window in the store. It eventually found a home at a winery in Prince Edward County.
